Since the vinyl era, Smoking Media has existed at the intersection of electronic music and technology. What started in Amsterdam's underground scene has evolved into a studio creating both music and software.
Smoking Media began in the mid-1990s Amsterdam electronic music scene, releasing tracks on Outland Records β a label that became synonymous with the city's underground sound. Those were the days of vinyl pressings, warehouse parties, and music that pushed boundaries.
But alongside the music, there was always code. The same precision that went into producing a track applied to building software. The same creativity that drove musical innovation fueled technical problem-solving.
Today, Smoking Media operates in both worlds. We still release electronic music across tech-house, techno, disco, and ambient. But we also build developer tools β software that respects privacy, avoids vendor lock-in, and solves real problems.
Based in Prague, we're a one-person operation with three decades of experience in music production and software development. Both disciplines share the same core values: quality over quantity, independence over trends, and craftsmanship above all.
Principles that guide both our music and our software
Your data belongs to you. We build GDPR-compliant tools that respect privacy by design, never selling or sharing your information.
Export your code, own your content, leave whenever you want. We believe in freedom and portability, not vendor captivity.
Whether it's a track or a software feature, we focus on doing fewer things exceptionally well rather than many things poorly.
We build tools we wish existed and release music we want to hear. If it doesn't solve a genuine need, we don't build it.
Based in Prague with European values. We understand GDPR, multilingual needs, and the importance of data sovereignty.
Clear pricing, honest communication, and fair dealing. No hidden costs, no dark patterns, no surprises.
Whether you're interested in the music, curious about the software, or want to collaborate, I'd love to hear from you.
